Maxi cab etiquette may not seem of the utmost importance — you don’t need it to get through dinner with the new in-laws, for example — but for those who travel frequently, knowing what and what not to do in a taxi cab is essential. From knowing how much to tip to knowing what to do if you have a complaint, riding in taxi cabs can involve walking a fine line between getting from point A to point B or getting asked to get out and walk. The following offers tips on how to behave as a backseat driver.

In major US cities like Seal Beach and Stanton there are laws pertaining to public transport vehicles in order to protect the rights of the passengers and other vehicles on the road. If a taxi, which is unregistered, is running on the roads then chances are that if it meets with an accident, there are severe risks involved.

There are some important points to remember before getting in a maxicab which can help you in the long run. Some of them are:

1. A valid driver’s license: It is mandatory for each and every yellow cab driver to have a valid driver’s license. So generally it is advised to check the driver’s license before getting in the cab.

2. A valid registration: It is also important for any registered yellow cab to have a proper registration number. Normally this number is printed on the vehicle. In case you notice that this number is missing from the taxi you are about to board, simply avoid that taxi and get another one.

3. Taxis are supposed to have a proper meter: You may find a number of cabs with tampered meters. If you get in a cab with a defective meter, then you may have to pay more than the original fare. Always ensure that the meter is running properly. If you have any doubts about the meter then let the driver know and if required get off the cab immediately. This is something that is done by numerous US citizens residing in cities like Seal Beach and Cypress.

4. Never get in a stray limousine: Limousines are not allowed to solicit fares. They have to be booked in advance. If you notice such a limousine on the roads then do not make the mistake of hailing it. It is always better to hire a registered yellow cab instead.
